MEDITATION: The Practice & The Science
Meditation is training the mind. According to modern neuroscience, the mind is a dynamic flow of experiences rather than a fixed state. By learning meditation, we can create new neural pathways that improve memory, increase attention and reduce stress. These sessions will provide you with the necessary practice and understanding of meditation. We will learn how to make meditation a regular practice and how to bring it into our daily lives in ways that calm and enrich us. Each session will provide multiple ways to enter a meditative state. These include guided meditation, meditation with simple movements and focused breath meditations. The class is designed for beginner and intermediate students.

Wise Aging
Those of us in our fifties, sixties, seventies and beyond can count ourselves as part of a history-making generation—pioneers in understanding and making the most of this “third chapter” of life. These years of aging are full of opportunities for learning, growth and finding new meanings and connections. The Wise Aging program provides resources and support to live the later years with spirit, resilience, and wisdom.
We will explore some of the deep questions presented by this stage of our lives. This group will use writings from the Bible, Buddhist and Christian traditions. Topics and questions are drawn from the Talmud, Hassidic stories, Rumi poetry, as well as contemporary writings by Ram Das and Rabbi Zalman Schacter Shalomi.
We will be using stories, questions, and our personal reflections that enable us to come to new understandings about our lives, ourselves, and our values. Learning modalities include small and large group discussions, reflective listening and dyads. Topics include: exploring this stage of life; a life review; relationship to one’s body; revitalizing and nourishing relationships; practicing forgiveness; learning to live with loss, change, and death, cultivating wisdom, and leaving a legacy.
The Teacher:Debra Rosenblum is an interfaith minister and was a public-school teacher for over 20 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Creative and Expressive Arts from Salva Regina University. She also holds certifications as a yoga teacher, meditation teacher and spiritual director.
